Crowns
A crown (also known as a cap) is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of the prepared tooth.
Our crowns are all-ceramic tooth coloured material, which is strong and gives the appearance of a natural tooth. Crowns are great for improving appearance of the tooth, restoring broken or heavily filled teeth and prevent cracked teeth from breaking further.
Dentists also recommend crowning a root treated tooth to help protect what is left after the treatment. Sometimes if the tooth is root-filled and doesn’t have much tooth structure left the dentist will recommend using a post crown. The post is cemented into the tooth root before placing the crown, this provides additional support and strength to the crown.
Crown treatment requires two appointments with two weeks in-between. On the first appointment the dentist will remove a layer of the outer surface of the tooth, then impressions are taken and sent to the lab to use this information to design and make the crown. The dentist will note the shade of your tooth and fit a temporary crown. For the second appointment your dentist will make sure that you’re happy with the colour and appearance of your new crown before cementing it in place.
Bridge
A dental bridge is used to fill a gap left by at least one missing tooth. This can help to improve the cosmetic appearance of your smile, as well as improved function of the mouth so that patients are able to speak and eat in a similar way they did before.
Bridge treatment also requires two appointments with two weeks in-between. On the first appointment the dentist will remove a layer of the outer surface of the teeth/tooth which will support the Bridge, then impressions are taken and sent to the lab to use this information to design and make the crown. The dentist will note the shade of your teeth and fit a temporary restoration. For the second appointment your dentist will make sure that you’re happy with the colour and appearance of your new Bridge before cementing it in place.
Veneers
Veneers are thin covers made from either porcelain or composite which are custom made to fit over the front surface of teeth. They can be used to fix chipped, stained, misaligned, worn down or uneven teeth. Giving you a naturally straight white smile.
Again, Veneer treatment appointments are done in a very similar way to crowns and bridges, they also require two appointments with two weeks in-between. The first appointment is longer so the dentist can prepare the teeth for the veneers, you leave the appointment wearing temporary veneers and the final ones are fitted at the second appointment.
